The Magic of Slow Stays

Today I want to share a deeply transformative experience I recently had with my mum. We spent some time at an incredible eco-luxe accommodation called “Blackbird” perched on a mountain, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Chincogan Mountain and the Koonyum Ranges. This wasn’t just a vacation, it was a slow stay, and it came at a time when life had been particularly challenging over the past few years.
We intentionally chose a slow stay for several reasons. We wanted to reconnect with nature, to immerse ourselves in its serenity and beauty. The location was perfect for this, as it was tranquil, lush, and far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Quality Time: Spending quality time with my mum was another big reason. Life gets so busy, and we often don’t have the time to cherish these moments with our loved ones. Spending time with mum is one of my highest priorities. A slow stay provided the perfect opportunity for us to have a mother and daughter time without any distractions.
Sustainable Living: As a wellness coach, mindfulness and well-being are core to my philosophy. This stay allowed us to practice mindfulness, meditation and yoga in the most serene settings. It was also about aligning with sustainable living, as the accommodation emphasized eco-friendly practices.
Going in, I expected to find peace and relaxation, but I came away with so much more. I found a deeper connection to nature, created space in my mind which renewed my creativity, and a stronger bond with my mum.
Escape from Technology: It was a digital detox, a chance to unhook from technology and truly live in the moment. We decided to limit the use of our phones apart from taking pics and videos.
The Benefits of Slow Stays: are profound and it’s here to stay, as they reduce stress, enhance your well-being, improve relationships, spark creativity, and promote overall wellbeing. It’s about embracing the present moment and finding joy in simplicity.
My Suggestions On What To Do To Unhook From The Distractions of Life:
Engage in activities that promote relaxation and mindfulness. Here are some suggestions:
Nature Walks and Hikes: Explore the stunning landscapes surrounding the accommodation, soaking in the sights and sounds of nature.
Meditation and Yoga: Practice meditation and yoga to center your mind and body, fostering a deep sense of peace.
Reading and Journaling: Dive into a good book or journal your thoughts and experiences, allowing for introspection and creative expression.
Mindful Eating: Savor meals slowly, appreciating the flavors and textures, and the effort put into sustainably sourced, nutritious food.
Digital Detox: Limit screen time and focus on the present moment, engaging fully with your surroundings and the people with you.
Spa and Wellness Treatments: Indulge in massages, facials, or other wellness treatments that enhance relaxation and rejuvenation.
Stargazing: Spend evenings stargazing, reflecting on the vastness of the universe and your place within it.
Our slow stay was nothing short of magical. Because in our fast-paced world, the need to slow down, to reconnect with ourselves and our loved ones, has never been greater. Slow stays offer a sanctuary from the chaos, a chance to breathe, reflect, and rejuvenate. They remind us of the beauty of life’s simple pleasures and the importance of taking time for ourselves.
So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by life, I highly recommend finding a slow stay retreat. It might just be the perfect remedy for your mind, body, and soul.
